Our approach
We find. We fix. You profit.
We uncover where your business is losing time, revenue and margin. Then we identify the improvements that matter, help implement practical solutions and measure the results. No unnecessary complexity. Just better commercial performance.
How the stages apply
These three stages describe how we work across every engagement. They aren't all included in the Commercial Performance Diagnostic, which covers the agreed assessment, findings and recommendations. Implementation and ongoing performance measurement are scoped and priced separately, where you choose to take them forward.
We find.
Find what's holding your business back.
We start with the wider business context: how work is won, delivered and paid for, which teams and systems are involved, and where performance may be constrained. For the Commercial Performance Diagnostic, we then select three priority workflows for detailed recommendations. We distinguish symptoms from root causes and evidence from assumptions.
Where we estimate potential commercial impact, it's based on the evidence available, and we set out the assumptions behind it.
Typical outputs
- Business-wide opportunity overview within agreed scope
- Three prioritised workflow assessments for a diagnostic
- Documented constraints, assumptions and evidence gaps
- Prioritised recommendations and potential commercial impact
We fix.
Turn identified opportunities into practical improvements.
We develop recommendations around feasibility, ownership, adoption and commercial value. Depending on the engagement, this can involve process redesign, better reporting, workflow automation, systems configuration or implementation support.
Where implementation is agreed, we work alongside your team to put improvements into practice, rather than leaving recommendations sitting in a document. Implementation is scoped and priced separately from the diagnostic.
Typical outputs
- Defined improvement plan
- Responsibilities
- Delivery phases
- Implementation deliverables and dependencies
You profit.
Measure progress rather than relying on promises.
We agree what success should look like and, where the scope allows, compare outcomes against a documented baseline. Financial impact is estimated only where the evidence supports it; some benefits are better measured through speed, accuracy, capacity or reliability.
Depending on the engagement, that could mean faster quotations, higher conversion rates, fewer administrative hours, improved billing accuracy or better visibility of profit margins.
Typical outputs
- Agreed performance measures
- Review of observed changes
- Recommendations for refinement
How we work
Working principles
-
Commercial first
Start with business objectives, not software features.
-
Defined scope
Agree responsibilities, fees, deliverables and exclusions.
-
Evidence over assumptions
Explain the basis for recommendations and estimates.
-
Practical adoption
Improvements only work when people use them. We design around the teams responsible for making change happen.
-
No unnecessary complexity
Improve what already works before adding new tools.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
What if the initial review shows there's no strong business case?
We'll explain the findings and recommend against unnecessary work.
How do you measure success?
We agree suitable measures for the engagement. Depending on the challenge, these may include response time, conversion, rework, administrative effort, process accuracy or margin visibility.
Will our team need to be involved?
Usually, yes. Understanding the real process and making improvements stick requires input from the people who do the work.
How long does the Commercial Performance Diagnostic take?
Timelines depend on the size and complexity of the business, the agreed scope and the availability of relevant information. We'll confirm the expected timeframe before work begins.
Do we have to use Medlock to implement the recommendations?
No. The diagnostic is a standalone engagement. You'll receive the findings and recommendations whether or not you choose to work with us on implementation.
